About
- Name origin
- KATSEYE is pronounced "cat's eye" and takes its name from the cat's-eye gemstone, a stone that radiates different colors depending on the direction from which it is viewed — much like the group's members, who each bring a distinct culture, aesthetic, and talent to the group. Member Lara Raj proposed spelling the name with a "K" to give it a modern edge and connect it to K-pop culture.
- Formation
- KATSEYE was formed through "The Debut: Dream Academy," the 2023 global reality competition series jointly developed by HYBE and Geffen Records. Over 120,000 applicants were narrowed down to twenty contestants, and the final six-member lineup — Sophia, Lara, Daniela, Yoonchae, Megan, and Manon — was announced in the live finale on November 17, 2023. The group debuted on June 28, 2024 with the single "Debut," with members hailing from the Philippines, Switzerland, South Korea, and the United States, and is based in Los Angeles.
- Why fans love them
- Fans were first drawn to KATSEYE by their breakout single "Touch," which became a viral hit, and by "Gnarly," the group's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Their second EP, Beautiful Chaos, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, and its single "Gabriela" earned the group a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside a Best New Artist nomination at the 68th Grammy Awards. Beyond the charts, the group is praised for high-energy live performances and choreography, a Y2K-influenced fashion identity with major brand campaigns (Gap, Fendi, Coach), and the authentic multicultural representation its six members embody.
