Comeback Calendar →About
- Name origin
- His stage name WOODZ reflects his philosophy of 'deep roots, light branches,' adopted in 2018 when he shifted from hip-hop (as Luizy) toward alternative R&B and pop-rock.
- Formation
- Cho Seung-youn debuted in 2014 as the main rapper of the Korean-Chinese boy group UNIQ, then debuted solo as Luizy in July 2016 after appearing on Show Me the Money 5. He finished 5th on Produce X 101 in 2019 and promoted with project group X1 until its disbandment in January 2020, then rebuilt his solo career as WOODZ, now under EDAM Entertainment.
- Why fans love them
- Fans love WOODZ as a self-producing all-rounder who writes and produces nearly all his music across pop-rock, alternative R&B, and hip-hop. His 2023 song 'Drowning' became a legendary chart-reversal hit, topping Melon's 2025 annual chart two years after release.

Hit songs
A 2023 pop-rock track from the EP OO-LI about the suffocating pain of being left by a lover, driven by blaring electric guitar and a soaring chorus.
Why it hit: A viral chart-reversal phenomenon: after a military-uniform performance on Immortal Songs, it climbed to No. 1 on Melon's Top 100 and finished as Melon's No. 1 song of 2025.
The 2020 lead single of his first EP Equal, an 80s-tinged pop track about hopeless love, with a video showing two sides of WOODZ.
Why it hit: It relaunched his solo career after X1's disbandment and established the WOODZ sound that defined his EPs to come.
