Plave

About

Name origin

The name PLAVE combines the English word 'play' with 'rêve,' the French word for 'dream,' expressing the idea of creating a new world to achieve one's dreams. VLAST presents the group as building that shared new world together with fans. The official fandom name, PLLI, follows the same wordplay, blending 'play' and 'reality.'

Formation

PLAVE was created by VLAST, a tech startup that began as a special project inside Korean broadcaster MBC in 2021 and was formally founded in February 2022. The five members are webtoon-style virtual avatars performed in real time by human performers wearing motion-capture suits, whose identities VLAST keeps undisclosed. The group was introduced via a YouTube/Twitch live broadcast on September 15, 2022, and officially debuted on March 12, 2023 with the single album 'Asterum.'

Why fans love them

PLAVE broke the mainstream barrier for virtual idols: their 2024 single 'WAY 4 LUV' made them the first virtual act ever to win a Korean television music show (Show Champion and Show! Music Core). They are self-producing idols, with all members writing, composing, and choreographing their own music, and their third mini album 'Caligo Pt.1' (February 2025) made them the first virtual group to sell over one million copies of an album in its first week. In September 2026 they launched their first world tour, '2026 PLAVE WORLD TOUR KEEP IT MANIC,' opening with a stadium debut at Incheon Munhak Stadium.
